The McKinney STEAM Academy is a McKinney non profit that supports the love of learning new and challenging concepts. We started as a humble community robotics team but we have grown into a powerhouse of support for the love of all that is STEAM for kids and teens in McKinney, Texas and the surrounding areas.
Our program's primary focus is supporting our local youth to compete in robotics with the auspices of FIRST. FIRST has three main divisions and we have 18 teams competing across all three divisions!
First LEGO League (FLL) is for kids ages 4-16 and is a warm and familiar introduction to the world of robotics. Small and dynamic robots are built and programed in a team environment out of this classic childhood building medium.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), ages 12-18, steps things up a notch with slightly larger robots and more industrial build materials. The robots are heavier and move faster
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is where teenagers 14-18 can expand the limits of their skill. These robots are *big* and fast. These teams are pushed to integrate multiple software challenges along with mechanical challenges to produce a well rounded and robust robot.
We have been invited to attend the Frisco Rough Riders STEM fundraiser! Every game ticket sold through our link raises funds for our students! We will be there with our robots answering the public’s questions. Be sure to stop by and say “Hi!” while you’re there.
